Manchelopi is an unspun yarn that is made 100% with Manchega wool from La Mancha. Its white natural color and its twist-free slivers make this “cheese” a rare and high-quality material with which you will be able to create unique and inimitable clothing.
As for the thickness, due to its double sliver, it will depend on our control of the needles. If we want to knit it in two strands to make it easier for us, we would be facing a thickness of 230m / 100g (DK); on the other hand, if you are one of the highly skilled ones and you dare with a single strand, you will have double the meters: 460m / 100g (Fingering).
As fluffy and soft, you would hug them without having to knit them.
With this new collection of Manchelopis, our goal was to enhance the many possibilities that nature offers us. By blending white and black wool we have obtained a range of 100% natural colors.
A collection created to make honor its name, since they are authentically Manchegos. Both the flocks that provide the wool and the entire yarn-making process are here, in Castilla-La Mancha. On one hand, the white wool comes from Las Banderas livestock, placed in la Serranía de Cuenca. It is there where Raúl looks after his sheep from La Mancha. He practices transhumance and when the time arrives, he guides his flock to Sierra de Andujar looking for new pastures.
On the other hand, the dark wool is obtained by our friend José, from Jesús Giménez Diezma livestock. He owns a flock of black sheep. One of the few that are left. They graze freely in Los Montes de Toledo and only look for shelter on the farm when they require José’s care.
These two flocks are great examples of the conservation of a national autochthonous breed whose wool, not being merino, will be worth it for its brightness and softness. The support of Wooldreamers and our help couldn’t be missed considering these incredible manchelopis.
